It seems that everybody here in Doha got a renewed interest for shawarma right after the movie "The Avengers" was shown. Yes, it is that mouthwatering pita bread sandwich or wrap filled with either beef or chicken meat.
In the recently released film, Iron Man suddenly craves the flavorful Arabic street food after a major battle scene.
"Have you ever tried shawarma?" Iron Man asks Captain America. "There's a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don't know what it is, but I want to try it." After the film's credits roll, the superheroes can be seen silently chowing down on shawarma. In the YouTube video below, the theater audience explodes in cheers and laughter at the sequence, with one movie-goer saying, "Wow. They actually went!"
It was so amusing but, at the same time, it was a very effective marketing campaign that has gotten everybody, including myself, to crave for a QR5 shawarma scoffed at the roadside.
